Deano's Pizzarama opened Dec. 1960 as Me-n-Ed's. The first customer was Oliver Moraga (the $1.00 bill is framed on the back bar). The Mesa was a very small area then.
There was no Carrillo Hill and Shoreline Drive was not a road yet. Las Positas and Cliff Drive were very narrow twisting two lane roads. Making the Mesa hard to get to.
Dean Metcaff bought out the Me-n-Ed's franchise and ran it with his sister. On Sept.1965, he asked his good customer Oliver Moraga if he would like to buy in as a partner. So the name "Dean-os" comes from a combination of their names. Until recently Deano's was run by three generations of the Moraga Family.
Lou Torres, a family friend, and long time customer of Deano's, assumed ownership on July 1, 2004. Lou Torres, a Santa Barbara Native, hopes to keep the same atmosphere for the next 40 years.
